Smoke Detectors
Purpose

- To provide free smoke detectors to all Berthoud residents.
- To meet Berthoud Fire Protection District's Strategic Plan of creating "Safer and Healthier Neighborhoods".
Goal
- To prevent the loss of life from fire in Berthoud.
- To have 100% of residences in the Berthoud area, protected by an installed and functional smoke detector.
What are the requirements to receive a free smoke detector?
- You must be a resident of Berthoud.
How do I get a smoke detector?
- Call the Berthoud Fire Protection District between the hours of 7 a.m. And 5 p.m. at 970-532-2264.
What happens once I call and make a request?
Your name, address and phone number will be logged into a Request Log. Berthoud Fire Protection District personnel will then contact you by telephone to schedule an appointment convenient for you to install your smoke detector. Due to the large number of requests, you should anticipate a 2-3 week time period before being contacted. Please be patient, we are using on-duty firefighters to install the detectors as quickly as possible.
How Often should I replace my battery?
You should pay strict attention to the battery life of your smoke detector. Most devices now have some sort of signal such as a loud beep. To be safe, replace your batter every time you change your clocks for the two annual time changes, if not more often.
